Es wurde mit der Absicht geschaffen, Personen und Institutionen, die nicht über eine große institutionelle Holzsammlung verfügen, die Bestimmung von Handelhölzern zu ermöglichen bzw. zu erleichtern und auch Informationen zu diesen Hölzern bereit zu stellen.
