Am Fuße des Jagdschlosses von Jan Wellem, Baubeginn 1705, liegt das Milchborntal, welches bereits Goethe bei seiner Kunstreise 1774 entzückte.
Hier erwarb die Familie Mangold Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts größere Ländereien mit alten Fachwerkgebäuden, die, so sagt die Zeitgeschichte, noch teilweise aus der Bauperiode des Schlosses für französische Handwerker gebaut worden waren.
In diesem Tal eröffnete Wilhelm Mangold 1925 ein Waldrestaurant Hänsel- und Gretelhaus.
