The draft of a Protocol on the illicit manufacturing of and trafficking in firearms was finalised at a meeting of this ad hoc committee in Vienna from 26 February to 2 March 2001.
The draft was adopted by the General Assembly of the United Nations on 31 May 2001, and opened to all states for signature from the thirtieth day following its adoption.
The EU Member States have said they favour rapid adoption of the Protocol.

Der oben genannte Entwurf wurde von der Generalversammlung der Vereinten Nationen am 31. Mai 2001 angenommen und lag ab dem dreißigsten Tag nach der Annahme zur Unterzeichung auf.
Die Mitgliedstaaten haben sich für eine schnelle Annahme des Protokolls ausgesprochen.
