Durch elektrochemische Oxidation an der Anode des Reaktors und anschließende Reduktion an der Kathode des Reaktors können sowohl Ammonium als auch organische Wasserinhaltsstoffe und organisch gebundene Halogene aus dem Deponiesickerwasser eliminiert werden.
Bei der elektrochemischen Aufbereitung werden, im Gegensatz zur Membranfiltration, die Wasserinhaltsstoffe vollständig abgebaut.
