Anknüpfend daran konstituierte sich am 25. März 2010 der so genannte „ Gemeinsame Ausschuss “ des Verbandes Region Rhein-Neckar und des Regionalverbandes Mittlerer Oberrhein.
In diesem politischen Gremium, das sich aus Vertretern der jeweiligen Planungsausschüsse zusammensetzt, werden alle die beiden Regionen betreffenden Planungen und Projekte abgestimmt.
Für die sozioökonomisch eng verflochtenen Nachbarregionen ist beispielsweise der Bau einer zweiten Rheinquerung nördlich der bestehenden „ Maxauer Brücke “ zwischen Karlsruhe und Wörth das derzeit wichtigste Verkehrsinfrastrukturprojekt.

All plans and projects that affect both regions are coordinated in this political body, which comprises representatives of the respective planning committees.
For instance, the construction of a second bridge over the Rhine to the north of the existing " Maxauer Brücke " between Karlsruhe and Wörth is currently the most important transport infrastructure project for the socially and economically closely intertwined neighbouring regions.
