Ein Bericht von Tom Rhodes, Referent des Komitees zum Schutz von Journalisten ( CPJ ) geht auf die repressiven Maßnahmen der Regierung Tansanias ein, mit denen Investigativjournalismus unterdrückt werden soll.
In seinem Artikel „The invisible plight of the Tanzanian press“ erklärt Rhodes, der Newspaper Act von 1976 erlaube der tansanischen Regierung, verdächtige Artikel zu verbieten.Damit stehe dieser nicht im Einklang mit internationalen Standards der Pressefreiheit.
Laut Rhodes bedarf es einer Reformierung des Mediengesetzes, um redaktionelle Unabhängigkeit in Zukunft zu gewährleisten.
