He vividly described the principle underlying this style as “both – and” instead of “either – or,” and brilliantly countered Mies van der Rohe’s tenet of classic Modernity that “less is more” with “less is a bore.”1 Venturi’s most famous furniture design consists of a series of nine chairs, which he designed for Knoll International between 1979 and 1984.
