Die bestehenden Ausbildungen und vor allem die Anzahl der Ausgebildeten decken aber nicht den zukünftigen Bedarf der österreichischen Wirtschaft ab.
Das Ziel des Projektes RETRAIN war es daher, die bereits bestehenden Qualifizierungsangebote in den oben angeführten Bereichen zu erfassen, zu evaluieren und entsprechend des Bedarfs zu adaptieren, sowie neue Ausbildungen zu definieren.
