Unter der Leitung des Gründers Gerald O ’ Grady unterrichteten dort die mittlerweile kanonisierten strukturalistischen Avantgardefilmer Hollis Frampton, Tony Conrad und Paul Sharits, der Dokumentarfilmer James Blue, die Videokünstler Steina und Woody Vasulka sowie Peter Weibel.
Das gesamte Spektrum der Medienkunst – vom fotografischen Bild zur Diainstallation, von der Musikperformance zur Film- und Videoperformance, vom Film zur Filminstallation, vom Videotape zum Video-Environment, von der Computergrafik zur interaktiven Installation – wurde von ihnen in umfangreichen Werkblöcken frühzeitig und wegweisend vorbereitet und verwirklicht.
Dabei wurde auch die gesellschaftliche Rolle der Medien, insbesondere die des Fernsehens, und deren partizipatorische Möglichkeiten erkannt und für künstlerische, teils auch politische Projekte genutzt.

In doing so, they recognized media ’ s social role, especially that of television and its participatory possibilities, and used this for artistic and sometimes also political projects.
