The Long Term Asset Value ( LTAV ) standard has been available for the maritime industry since 2009 – it is a newly developed ship evaluation standard based on a discounted cashflow model , complementing the previous evaluation standard .
This method has now gained substantial acceptance, particularly in view of the financial and economic crisis, because more and more experts and brokers felt unable to carry out the previously usual evaluation based on market transactions, due to lack of a representative number of ship purchases and sales.

Seit dem Jahr 2009 steht der maritimen Branche mit dem sog.„ Long Term Asset Value “ ( LTAV ) ein neu entwickeltes Schiffsbewertungsverfahren auf Basis eines Discounted-Cash- Flow-Modells zur Verfügung, welches eine Ergänzung zu den bisherigen Bewertungsverfahren darstellt.
Insbesondere als Folge der Finanz- und Wirtschaftskrise stieg die Akzeptanz dieses Verfahrens, da sich immer mehr Sachverständige und Makler außerstande sahen, mangels einer ausreichenden Anzahl von repräsentativen Schiffsan- bzw. Schiffsverkäufen die bis dahin übliche, auf Markttransaktionen basierende Bewertung durchzuführen.
