Erste genetische Untersuchungen ergaben, dass der cas1 Phänotyp auf eine rezessive Mutation an einem einzelnen Genort zurückgeführt werden kann.
Durch genetische PCR-gestützte Kopplungsanalyse gelang es, diesen Lokus auf einen Bereich von ca. 8 – 10 centiMorgan auf Chromosom IV zu begrenzen.
