Nachdem das Konzept einer gezielten akustischen Optimierung an Profilen für Windkraftanlagen erfolgreich getestet wurde, wurde am IAG gegen Ende des Projekts SWING eine allgemeine Methodik erarbeitet, die eine Vorhersage des aerodynamischen Schalls auch für kompliziertere, 3-D Fälle wie z.B. Flügelspitzen erlauben soll.
Diese Methodik beruht auf der akustischen Analogie von Lighthill und verknüpft die Fernfeldintensität des Schalls mit der Korrelation der turbulenten Geschwindigkeitsschwankungen im Quellgebiet und der Green'schen Funktion.
