www.ptb.deWeil dessen Frequenz höher ist als bei den Mikrowellenschwingungen der Cäsium-Atomuhren, wird noch einmal eine Steigerung in der Genauigkeit, Stabilität und Zuverlässigkeit erwartet.
Bei der optischen Gitteruhr werden Strontiumatome im Interferenzmuster zweier Laserstrahlen festgehalten.
In diesem so genannten " optischen Gitter " kann dann das atomare " Pendel ", d.h. die Absorptionsfrequenz der Atome, sehr genau gemessen werden.

In the case of the optical lattice clock, strontium atoms are confined in the interference pattern of two laser beams.
In this so-called " optical lattice ", the atomic " pendulum ", i.e. the absorption frequency of the atoms, can then be measured very precisely.
