Eine Öffnung des Oberrocks hätte bei diesem breiten Gewand etwas seltsam ausgesehen, also waren die Roben - wie in einem vorigen Kapitel erwähnt - oft von der Taille abwärts zugenäht, was eine Jupe überflüssig machte.
In England, wo das Manteau unter dem Namen mantua überlebte, löste man das Problem so, daß der Rock der Robe vollständig auf die Rückseite gezogen und dort zu einer Schleifenform drapiert wurde, so daß man von vorn nur die Jupe sah.
Frisuren wurden ähnlich getragen wie bisher, vielleicht etwas häufiger gepudert.

In this picture here the manteau skirt cannot been seen at all. So the skirt of the robe had become an appendix, uncovering most of the jupe which now had to be decorated accordingly.
