Als Literat fing Hašek mit kleinen Erzählungen, Skizzen und Humoresken an, die zuerst in Zeitschriften und später auch in Buchform abgedruckt wurden, z. B. Můj obchod se psy a jiné humoresky /Mein Hundeladen und andere Humoresken/ (1915).
