Der geografische Schwerpunkt liegt mit Afrika, Madagskar und den Kanarischen Inseln auf der Alten Welt ( Paläotropis ).
Das Tropenhaus der Loki-Schmidt-Gewächshäuser gliedert sich auf 400 m² Fläche in die Bereiche tropische Nutzpflanzen, Wasserpflanzen, Bergregenwaldpflanzen und Aufsitzerpflanzen ( Epiphyten ).
