Hier wurde schon im 16. Jahrhundert das einheimische Raseneisenerz verhüttet, um Munition für die nahegelegene Festung herzustellen.
Ergänzt wird das Museum durch eine ständige Ausstellung zur Industriegeschichte Preußens am Beispiel Peitz sowie durch das anliegende Fischereimuseum.
