Im Gegensatz zu anderen existierenden Flüssigphasenmechanismen werden in CAPRAM neben der C1 und C2 - Chemie auch Reaktionen von organischen Verbindungen mit mehr als zwei Kohlenstoffatomen ( Alkohole, Carbonyle, Carbonsäuren ) berücksichtigt.
Im Mechanismus ist außerdem ein detailliertes Reaktionsschema der Schwefel(IV) Oxidation durch Radikale, Übergangsmetalle (Eisen, Kupfer, Mangan), Peroxyde und Ozon integriert.
Neben dem Basismechanismus von CAPRAM wurden in den letzten Jahren auch reduzierte Chemiemechanismen (Deguillaume et al., 2009) für regionale Chemie-Transport-Modelle und weitere spezielle Reaktionsmodule entwickelt.
