Mit diesem dadurch entstandenen geschlossenen Altstadtbereich als eines der ersten Mustermessezentren übernahm die Stadt den führenden Welthandelsplatz.
Im Herbst 1918 kam eine technische Messe noch zusätzlich in die Stadt, die dann zwei Jahre danach in die Nähe des Völkerschlachtdenkmals in ebenerdige Hallenanlagen verlegt wurde.
