Das übergreifende Ziel der von Gregor Schöner angeführten Forschung über “embodied cognition” ist, zu verstehen, wie Kognition in Nervensystemen entsteht.
Dazu werden die Grundlagen unseres Verständnisses der Kognition neu überdacht, um die Anbindung von kognitiven Prozessen an die sensorischen und motorischen Oberflächen stärker zu integrieren, die Einbettung von Organismen in strukturierte Umgebungen zu berücksichtigen und die neuronalen Grundprinzipien der Kognition zu erarbeiten.

Understanding how cognition emerges in nervous systems is the over-arching goal of the ”embodied cognition” research group headed by Gregor Schöner.
The foundations of our understanding of cognition are reexamined by taking into account the linkage of cognitive processes to the sensory and motor surfaces, the embedding of organisms in highly-structured and specific environments as well as the neural basis of cognitive processing.
