On 29 April 2014, representatives of the Indonesian Ministry of Fisheries and Maritime Affairs, the University in Jakarta, the FAO ( Food and Agricultural Organisation of the United Nations ) and the GIZ ( German Society for International Cooperation ) met with ZMT scientists to discuss new cooperative approaches and to explore possibilities for funding.
Together with the FAO , Indonesia has recently initiated the Indonesian Sea Large Marine Ecosystem Project ( ISLME ) .
It shall regulate sustainable fisheries as well as promote alternative income sources for the coastal population and the initiatives of the “blue economy” such as sustainable aquaculture.
