During his studies he won many competitions, bursaries and prizes of which the most acclaimed was a special price at the Fifth UNISA International Voice Competition in 2006 and the Vocal Category winner at the 2005 ATKV Muziq Competition.
In his Native South Africa he sung numerous Student opera productions such as Le nozze di Figaro and Die Zauberflöte (Aardklop production 2002;
TUKS 2004), Die Fledermaus(TUKS 2005), Hänsel und Gretel and Rita by Donizetti (Grahamstown International Arts festival 2006).

In 2009, Andrè Schuen was again a guest at the Salzburg Festival, performing in Al gran sole carico d´amore by Luigi Nono, directed by Ingo Metzmacher.
