A wide range of measures to promote selected value chains such as cashews, shea nuts, cotton, rice and pulses is being used in Benin to enhance the productivity and competitiveness of agriculture and to reduce poverty.

Funds from BACKUP Education helped the organisation revise education and action plans in Benin, Burkina Faso, Gambia, Ghana and Uganda with a view to gender-related issues.
The plans aim to improve girls' access to education, the length of time they attend schools and other educational institutions, and their learning performance.

The aim is to make cashew nut production in Ghana, Burkina Faso, Benin, Mozambique and Côte d ’ Ivoire more competitive at all stages of the value chain, producing a sustainable reduction in poverty in these countries.
The project leader is Peter Keller, an agro-economist and father of two sons in their mid-20s, who has been working for GIZ in Asia and Africa for over 30 years.
