The EU Directive on Aquaculture lists Bonamiosis, caused by Bonamia ostrea and its variants, and Marteiliosis, caused by Marteilia refringens and its variants.
Based on the recommendations of the Office International des Epizooties ( OIE ) another Bonamiosis, caused by Bonamia exitiosa, Microcytosis ( Microcytos mackani ) and Perkinsosis ( Perkinsus marinus ) must furthermore be diagnosed and differentiated.
