The park pays homage to the cosmopolitanism and international flair of Hamburg, which as a port and trading city perceives itself as a gateway to the world.
The Croatian consul general and doyen of the Hamburger Konsularischen Korps, Zarko Plevnik, had the idea of donating a tree typical of his country, hence expressing his country ’ s solidarity with the international garden show.
In 2007 he planted the first tree: a European Turkey Oak.
