A Bockwindmühle from Nordleda , constructed in 1935 in accurate detail , was consumed by fire in 1942 .
Its successor, the beautiful Erdholländermühle from Holßel, met with the same fate in 1983.

The building was rebuilt as a temporary solution in 1974 , after being consumed by fire in 1972 , and was opened as Gletscherrestaurant .
After the roof construction was reinforced in 1988, along with adapting the building according to the standard of the Berghaus, both inside and outside, a permanent structure was created from a provisional design.
