Sie beginnt am Ende des Krimmler Achentales und durchfließt zuerst sanft ca. 20 km ebene Almböden, um danach als tosender Gletscherbach den Talausgang zu erreichen und die gewaltigen Stufen der Krimmler Wasserfälle hinab zu stürzen.
