Durch die Säure-Lauge-Säure Extraktion wird das zu datierende Material in zwei Fraktionen aufgetrennt : ( i ) den Laugenrest ( Humin ), der keinen verlagerten organischen Kohlenstoff enthält und damit ( meistens ) ein verlässliches Radiokarbonalter der Probe liefert und ( ii ) die Huminsäure-Fraktion, die mobile, lösliche Komponenten enthalten kann.
Die Huminsäurefraktion einer Probe kann ergänzend zum Laugenrückstand datiert werden , um den Grad der Verschmutzung und die Verlässlichkeit des Radiokarbonalters abzuschätzen .
Bei Sedimenten mit Kohlenstoffgehalten unter 1 % empfehlen wir die Datierung beider Fraktionen.
