Ausgangssituation Mit einer Fläche von 180 Millionen Quadratkilometern nimmt der Pazifik etwa die Hälfte der globalen Meeresoberfläche und ein Drittel der gesamten Erdoberfläche ein.
Zu den 22 pazifischen Inselstaaten und Territorien gehören mehr als 200 gebirgige Vulkaninseln und etwa 2.500 flache Inseln und Atolle.

www.swisseduc.chAus AMSR-E-Daten erzeugen wir täglch globale Karten der Meereisbedeckung, mit einer räumlichen Auflösung von 6.25 km.
Die Meereisbedeckung wird in Prozent angegeben und bezeichnet den Anteil der Meeresoberfläche in einer Auflösungszelle (6.25 mal 6.25 km), der mit Eis bedeckt ist.
Außerdem werden noch etwa 20 verschiedene regionale Meereiskarten erzeugt (z.B. Ostsee, Beringstraße, Rossmeer) .

The sea ice cover is given as ice concentration, i.e. the percentage of one resolution cell (6.25 by 6.25 km) that is covered by sea ice.
In addition to the global maps, about 20 different regional sea ice maps are generated (e.g., Baltic Sea, Bering Strait, Ross Sea).
