During the course of history, the recorder has proven itself to be transformative. In different geographic areas it played different roles: as a folk instrument ( i.e. Sephardim ), as an instrument of the Troubadours, as a household instrument during the Renaissance and as an instrument of the professional musician in the Baroque.
Regardless of whether it concerned notational music or improvisation, the recorder was used above all to represent the super natural - that is, death ( Ofrenda ), love ( La Rosa ), as well as imitation of nature ’ s sounds ( van Eyck ).
