Diese werden mit Spannungen von 40.000 - 200.000 V beschleunigt und auf das Untersuchungsobjekt gelenkt.
Die Elektronen erhalten dabei, über die de Broglie Gleichung ausgerechnet, eine Wellenlänge von z.B. nur 5 pm ( pm = 10-12 m = Milliardstel Millimeter für 50 kV Beschleunigungsspannung ).
