Friedrich II purchases the porcelain factory started by the merchant Johann Ernst Gotzkowsky in 1761 on Leipziger Strasse and founds the Königliche Porzellanmanufaktur ( royal porcelain factory – KPM ).
The wool manufacturer Wilhelm Caspar Wegely had opened Berlin ’ s first porcelain factory in 1751 on Neue Friedrichstrasse.
