There are plenty of cultural attractions in Kos Town : the impressive castle of the Knights of the Order of Saint John dating from the 15th / 16th century, the Agora, a market square from antiquity as well as the gymnasium, an ancient sports complex, bringing Greece ’ s eventful history back to life.
Kos is also home to the Platane of Hippocrates, allegedly the oldest tree in Europe.
According to legend, Hippocrates was born on Kos in 460 B.C. and is said to have taught his pupils in the shade of that very Platane.
