With this in mind, the Local Government ICT Network was set up in 2011 to act as a knowledge platform for information and communication technology issues at local authority level.
It is now used by over 650 members from around 220 ( out of a total of 278 ) local authorities.

At the campus of the regional hospital in Innsbruck alone Telekom Austria has incorporated all 14 buildings into a huge data network, comprising 24 university clinics, four institutes, 94 stations of which 16 are for intensive care, 60 outpatient clinics, 68 facilities such as laboratories, x-ray and therapy rooms, and 59 operating rooms.

Alleine am Campus des Landeskrankenhauses Innsbruck hat Telekom Austria alle 14 Gebäude, in denen 24 Universitätskliniken, vier Institute, 94 Stationen, davon 16 Intensivstationen, 60 Ambulanzen, 68 Funktionseinrichtungen wie Labore, Röntgen- und Therapieräume und 59 Operationssäle untergebracht sind, zu einem riesigen Datennetzwerk zusammengeschlossen.

The objective of SFB 491 is to work out the physical fundamentals of such heterolayer systems, which offer great potential in various areas of information and communication technology, particularly in the field of non-volatile data storage, magnetic field sensor technology, and the management of future data media.
SFB 491 involves close collaboration between the approximately 50 researchers from the working groups at the Ruhr University Bochum, the University of Duisburg-Essen and the Jülich Research Center.

Das Ziel des SFB 491 ist es, die physikalischen Grundlagen solcher Heteroschichtsysteme zu erarbeiten, die viele Möglichkeiten in verschiedenen Bereichen der Informations- und Kommunikationstechnologie bieten, insbesondere im Bereich der nichtflüchtigen Datenspeicherung, der Magnetfeldsensorik und der Steuerung zukünftiger Datenträger.
Im SFB 491 sind die rund 50 Wissenschaftler aus den Arbeitsgruppen an der Ruhr-Universität Bochum, der Universität Duisburg-Essen und dem Forschungszentrum Jülich sehr gut vernetzt.
