Waren in früheren Jahren die Bereiche Trockenbau, hier sei die Gipskartonplatte als Primärprodukt genannt und Putze die traditionellen Betätigungsfelder von Knauf, so hat sich mittlerweile der Bereich Dämmstoffe zu einem weiteren Standbein von Knauf entwickelt.
Der Grundstein hierfür wurde im Jahr 1978 mit der Übernahme eines Glasfaserherstellers in Shelbyville, USA gelegt.
