Die 1947 ins Leben gerufenen Weltfestspiele der Jugend und Studenten sind die größte Veranstaltung, die von fortschrittlichen und demokratischen Jugendlichen und Studenten der ganzen Welt organisiert wird.
Die Weltfestspiele sind eine der Hauptausdrucksformen des antiimperialistischen, antifaschistischen und antikolonialistischen Kampfes, der von der Jugend angeführt wird.
Nach den erfolgreichen 15. Weltfestspielen 2001 in Algerien, die zum ersten Mal auf dem afrikanischen Kontinent und in der arabischen Region durchgeführt wurden, werden die 16. Weltfestspiele vom 5.8. bis 13.8.2005 in Caracas, Venezuela, stattfinden.
