Peter Rüegg studierte an der ETH Zürich Biologie mit den Schwerpunkten Ökologie, Geobotanik und Biosystematik.
Nach dem Studium arbeitete er als freier Ökologe, unter anderem für die Brutvogelkartierungen der Vogelwarte Sempach.
1997 stieg er in den Journalismus ein.

After completing his studies he worked as freelance ecologist, amongst others, field-mapping breeding birds at the ornithological station Sempach.
He started his journalistic career in 1997, first writing for local newspapers in Winterthur, later as journalist for Central Switzerland and knowledge topics for Neue Luzerner Zeitung.

Wie der Ornithologe Daniel Schmidt vom NABU-Vogelschutzzentrum Mössingen dem Komitee mitteilte handelt es sich bei dem Fischadler um einen vier Monate alten Jungvogel, der am 25. Juni 2010 von Mitarbeitern des NABU und der Vogelwarte Hiddensee in einem Nest im Landkreis Müritz (Mecklenburg Vorpommern) beringt wurde.
Dort wird seit 1990 in Kooperation mit vielen ehrenamtlich tätigen Vogelkundlern, mit Behörden und Forschungseinrichtungen ein Langzeit-Forschungsprojekt am Fischadler durchgeführt.

According to Daniel Schmidt, an ornithologist from the NABU bird protection centre in Mössingen, the Osprey is a four month old young bird that was ringed at the nest in the Rural District of Müritz (Mecklenburg- Western Pomerania) by employees of NABU and the Hiddensee Ornithological Station on 25th June 2010.
A large number of voluntary ornithologists, in cooperation with local authorities and research institutes, have taken part in a long term Osprey research project in the region for the past 20 years.
